Pandemic Safe Volunteering: English B’Yachad English Tutoring

Skilled Volunteers for Israel offers an exciting online volunteer opportunity

Our new program, English B’Yachad (English Together), seeks to add meaning and purpose to life during this tumultuous time.

The program offers one one one English language tutoring to Israeli young adults through an online platform..

We already have a long list of interested and motivated students waiting to be paired with a tutor.

Apply to volunteer for a 10-session commitment (approximately 2 to 2.5 hours a week).

Many of our students are post-army Ethiopian Israelis who are pursuing high-tech careers and are highly motivated to improve their English skills.

Not a teacher?  Past tutoring or teaching experience is not required, but you must feel confident and comfortable taking the lead in discussions, and take the initiative to prepare for each tutoring session.

Students and tutors are interviewed to match individuals based on language abilities, student goals, tutoring experience and professional background.

We will provide training and start up resources but this program is not built upon a set curriculum as tutoring session content is customized to each student’s needs and goals.

For more information, see this new FAQ on the program.

If interested, or for more information, please complete this inquiry form or email Marla Gamoran at mgamoran@skillvolunteerisrael.org

Note: All sessions will be conducted on Zoom, unless the tutor and student decide together on a different format

From a current participant

Dearest Minna, I thank you deeply for the amazing experience I am getting with Queenie Rich in learning English.  …For the first time in my life (and I’m 40 years old), I feel good about learning English.  When I was a child, I always struggled with learning English and came to the conclusion that apparently I was simply not good in English.  I shared this with Queenie and she told me in no uncertain terms that I would succeed in learning English and I believed her.  From the first lesson, I felt good about the learning and could feel improvement.
